About the Water Garden Tour

    Seventeen years ago it dawned on the folks at Silver Lake Nature Center that many people would just love to have a chance to see backyard water gardens.
    Visiting the personal water gardens that individuals built might inspire people to make their own.
    It would also give the "pond tourers" a chance to ask questions, share ideas, or just enjoy the beauty of trickling water and tranquil fish.

Our very first Water Garden Tour displayed eight sites on just one Sunday afternoon. We had 100 attendees and one sponsor and it was a great success. Little did we know that the tour would grow to two Sundays, with over 500 attendees each day and 18 sponsors! In fact, in 1999, the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society presented the "Excellence in Programming Award" to Silver Lake Nature's Center's Water Garden Tour, in recognition of a superior event.

    Our Water Garden Tours begin at the Silver Lake Nature's own "eco pond."

    Traveling at your own pace from site to site you stop and marvel at the beauty and uniqueness of each pond.

    Pond owners (our hosts) will welcome you and answer any questions you might have.
    Light refreshments offered by each homeowner provide a cool respite from the heat.
    This is really a fun way to make new friends, meet fascinating people, and see their personal water garden space.

    Treat yourself and your friends to the delights of backyard water gardening.
    You never know what you might find around the next pine tree or up the next driveway.
    What a great way to see amazing water gardens, as you help Silver Lake Nature Center fulfill its mission of excellence in nature education.
